Mental Health
3 million Australians are living with anxiety or depression. Depression is an illness characterised by some of all of the following symptoms:
- Persistent low mood or loss of interest
- Tiredness
- Changes in appetite
- Difficulty sleeping
- Reduced concentration
- Lack of self confidence or feelings of guilt
- Becoming more withdrawn
- Difficulty functioning at home and work
- Thoughts of self harm or suicide
If you are suffering from these symptoms it is important to seek early medical advice so your doctor can assess the severity of the illness and take appropriate action. Sometimes anti-depressants are needed and often patients benefit from referral to a clinical psychologist. Your doctor can do a psychiatric assessment and prepare a mental health care plan to enable access to Medicare subsidised psychological treatments.
